The barracks of invading Russian forces and four trucks with ammunition were hit in blasts in the village of Nikolske outside the occupied city of Mariupol late on Feb. 12, the city’s mayoral advisor Petro Andriushchenko said in a Telegram messenger post on Feb. 13.

“Consequences of ‘bavovna’ (lit. ‘cotton’ in English, a euphemism used in Ukraine to describe an explosion in Russia) in Nikolske,” he said.

“Four trucks full of ammunition were hit in addition to the invaders’ barracks. That’s why the (secondary) detonation (was heard).”

In his post, Andriushchenko described the explosions as “harbingers of liberation.”

Earlier, the mayor’s advisor had reported that series of strong explosions had been heard near Mariupol in the evening of Feb. 12.

In particular, three loud explosions were heard in the villages of Manhush and Nikolske, as well as all districts of the city of Mariupol, followed by the sounds of secondary explosions.

Russian forces have positioned snipers at the exit points of the city, as Russia’s FSB security service has failed to deal with guerrilla activities in the region.

Before that, Andriushchenko reported that the number of Russian troops in and near Mariupol had increased to 30,000 soldiers.

On Feb. 7, another series of strong explosions was heard in Mariupol, this time in the area of the seaport.
