Italy to always support brave people of Ukraine, says new PM Meloni

Italy will always be on the side of the brave people of Ukraine, newly-appointed Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni wrote on Twitter on Oct. 22 in response to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s congratulations on her taking office.
“Many thanks to Volodymyr Zelenskyy,” Meloni tweeted.
“Italy is and will always be on the side of the brave people of Ukraine that is fighting for its freedom and for a rightful peace. You are not alone!”
The leader of the far-right Brothers of Italy party, Giorgia Meloni, 45, was officially sworn in as the head of the Italian government on Oct. 22, becoming the first female prime minister in the country’s history. She has previously been a member of a party founded by supporters of Italian fascist dictator Benito Mussolini.
