The Ministry of Infrastructure has decided to close the seaports of Berdyansk, Mariupol, Skadovsk and Kherson in southern Ukraine until the territories are liberated from Russian occupation, according to a statement published on the government’s website on April 30.

The Ministry explains that this decision was taken since Ukraine does not have de facto control over the seaports in occupied cities, and lacks the ability to service ships or transport cargo using occupied waterways. As a result, the Russian invasion has made it impossible to guarantee the safety of shipping in Ukrainian waterways.
