Fires at peat bogs near Kyiv have covered the area in a thick layer of smoke, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said in a Facebook post on Sep. 5.
According to the message, two fires in the Vyshhorod and Brovary districts of Kyiv Oblast are currently active, although the situation remains under control.
Kyiv municipal government said the smokey air is expected to persist through Sep. 5-6.
The officials urged people to shut windows, avoid going outside, drink plenty of fluids, and make use of air purifiers whenever available.
In an ongoing air quality crisis in the capital, emergency services have already extinguished five peat bog-based fires in the capital’s immediate vicinity, since Sep. 1.
