Due to the risk of potential provocations and attacks by the Russian military, residents of Mykolaiv should avoid going to church during the upcoming Eastern Orthodox Easter, Oleksandr Senkevich, the city’s mayor, said on April 22.

Senkevich compared the hazard with the COVID-19 pandemic, saying that an explosion, unlike the virus, is 100% lethal.

“I’m imploring you to avoid crowding near churches, if possible,” said Senkevich.

According to the mayor, Russian propaganda is spreading fake news about the Ukrainian military planning to bomb churches of the Moscow Patriarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church, in order to place the blame on Russian troops.
