The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine has sequestered UAH 657 million ($18 million) from the accounts of New Energy Ukraine, a company that may be linked to Ukrainian oligarch Ihor Kolomoisky.

News outlet LIGA. reported on Dec. 13, with reference to a court register, that on Dec. 1 the High Anti-Corruption Court confirmed a decision to seize UAH 657 million ($18 million) on the accounts of New Energy Ukraine LLC at the request of the anti-graft regulator for the purpose of further asset forfeiture.

The arrest was imposed as part of a criminal case on the sale of electricity in February-April 2022 in favor of United Energy LLC, which is associated with Kolomoisky.

According to the investigation, Ukrenergo officials sold electricity to the company, despite the fact that it was in a "default" state. This in turn led to the accumulation of bad debts.

Later, United Energy resold the electricity and withdrew the funds.

According to the publication, part of the amount ended up on the accounts of New Energy Ukraine LLC, which, according to the investigation, has long been under the control of United Energy officials.

"The investigation believes that New Energy Ukraine understood that the money received from United Energy was received as a result of a criminal offense, deliberately participated in their legalization and began to use them in economic activities in order to generate income," LIGA.net writes.

At the same time, New Energy Ukraine states that United Energy's debt to Ukrenergo has nothing to do with New Energy Ukraine as a counterparty.

The company maintains that United Energy's debt to Ukrenergo of UAH 1.7 billion ($43.9 million) is not a proven fact and has not been confirmed by the court.

In March 2021, energy producer Centrenergo limited the supply of electricity to United Energy LLC.

As reported earlier, companies related to Kolomoisky earned more than UAH 4 billion ($110 million) in six months from the sale of coal and gas to the state-owned company Centrenergo.
