The HAWK air defense system will soon come into service with the Ukrainian Air Force, Yuriy Ihnat, spokesman of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said on Nov. 18.
According to him, both the NASAMS and IRIS-T air defense systems are already working at the front.
“We expect the HAWK system to start working soon – it is currently being prepared for the Air Force’s combat formations,” Ihnat said on Ukrainian national television on Nov. 18.
According to him, this will allow Ukraine to strengthen its existing air defense system.
Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles on Nov. 10 announced that her country would send two more HAWK air defense systems to Ukraine.
Earlier, Spain handed Ukraine a package of military aid, which included:
- A battery of the Aspide anti-aircraft missile complex and missiles for it;
- Four HAWK air defense systems;
- Anti-tank missile systems, guns and projectiles;
- Other military equipment.
