NATO is now considering stationing its troops on the border of the alliance due to the “new reality” that has arisen after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

NATO secretary general Jens Stoltenberg said the alliance was undergoing a “very timely and fundamental transformation” that will include a response to the long-term consequences of the actions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Reuters news agency reported on April 10.

A decision on relaunching the NATO and its operational principles will be approved during the alliance’s upcoming summit in Madrid in June.

“What we see now is the new reality, new normality for European security,” Stoltenberg said.

“This is why we’ve asked our military command to prepare the options for what we call a relaunch, a long-term adaptation of NATO.”
