Support for Ukraine’s independence amongst its citizens has reached a record high of 97%, according to data from the sociological survey group Rating, published on Aug. 23. This is the highest level of support ever recorded.
97% of Ukrainians said that they would support the declaration of independence of Ukraine if that question was asked today.
Prior support for the notion had reached a high of over 80%, while that same question received only slightly more than 60% in 2012.
In addition, the survey revealed that the vast majority of respondents identified themselves as citizens of Ukraine (94%). Almost the same number also identified themselves as residents of their region. Only 10% identified themselves as a "Soviet person", while more than 80% did not.
When asked about the three words Ukrainians use to describe the future of Ukraine, most of them used the word “free”. The second more common word chosen was “independent”, and the third was “rich”.
On Aug. 24, 2022, Ukraine celebrated its 31st Independence Day, while defending its sovereignty from a renewed full-scale Russian invasion.
