New UK envoy to Ukraine begins his tenure
After presenting his credentials to
Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister Yevhen Perebyinis, Martin Harris CMG OBE is
now serving as the UK’s new Ambassador
to Ukraine, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said in a message on its website on
Sept. 11.
Perebyinis congratulated the ambassador on the start of his diplomatic mission in Ukraine, expressing hopes that his work would contribute to the further deepening of bilateral relations.
The parties discussed the full spectrum of cooperation between Ukraine and the UK, exchanging views on specific steps to deepen interaction in the context of Ukraine's course for NATO membership, as well as the implementation of international initiatives to support Ukraine.
Special attention was paid to the issue of strengthening sanctions pressure on Russia and the functioning of the Black Sea "grain corridor" for ensuring global food security.
On July 6, the UK government announced that Harris would become the new Ambassador to Ukraine, replacing Dame Melinda Simmons.
Harris had already worked in Kyiv from 2003 to 2008, holding the position of Deputy Ambassador and Consul General.
Simmons had headed London’s diplomatic mission in Ukraine since 2019. She will continue her diplomatic service in another position.
