No Trump-Zelenskyy bilateral planned at G7 as Ukraine peace talks loom

Donald Trump will attend next week’s G7 summit, but no separate meeting between
the two leaders is planned, The
Guardian reported on June 14.
A White House official said Trump is scheduled to meet with
French President Emmanuel Macron and the leaders of Qatar, the United Arab
Emirates, Egypt and India. No separate meeting with Zelenskyy is planned.
A senior U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity,
also said Russia’s gains on the front line have “more or less stopped.”
“We want the war to end as quickly as possible,” he added.
On June 13, a White House official, speaking on condition of
anonymity, told Suspilne that Zelenskyy and Trump would take part in a working
session at the G7 summit in France and could meet on the sidelines.
On June 11, Bloomberg, citing sources, reported that
European leaders at next week’s G7 summit in France planned to use their
meetings with Trump to draw him into efforts to revive peace talks between
Russia and Ukraine.
The report said Britain, France and Germany believed the war
had shifted in Ukraine’s favor, creating an opportunity for new talks beyond
the terms that emerged after Trump’s summit with Russian dictator Vladimir
Putin in Alaska.
The last meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy took place on
Dec. 28, 2025, at the Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, with delegations from
both countries attending.
After the meeting, Trump and Zelenskyy called it excellent and
productive but stressed that the most difficult issues — including the status
of Donbas and Russia’s and Ukraine’s sharply divergent positions on territories
seized by occupying forces — remained unresolved.
