Norway
will transfer a number of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, the Norwegian
government said in a press release on Aug. 24, citing PM Jonas Gahr Støre.
During his visit to Kyiv, the PM said that Norway will be training Ukrainian pilots and will provide two aircraft for training purposes.
Additionally, Norway will transfer its F-16s to Ukraine, with details regarding the number and timetable of deliveries to be revealed "in due time."
Norwegian media outlet TV2 reports that during a press conference, Støre specified that Ukraine will receive between five and ten fighter jets from Norway, dependent on their condition. He explained that Norway previously sold almost all of its F-16s to Romania.
In recent weeks, the Netherlands and Denmark had pledged to transfer a total of 61 F-16 aircraft to Ukraine, donating 42 and 19, respectively.
The first six aircraft from Copenhagen could be delivered before 2024. According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Denmark will be supplying the fighter jets in "several stages" and "not quickly."
Commander of the Ukrainian Air Force Mykola Oleshchuk stated that Ukrainian pilots are being trained on F-16s in the UK and Sweden. On Aug. 20, Zelenskyy visited a base in Denmark where, according to him, training is also ongoing.
