Number of new COVID-19 cases per day over 20,000 for the first time in two months
Over the past day, 20,156 Ukrainians have been diagnosed with COVID-19, a total of 150 deaths were recorded, and 4,486 patients recovered from the disease, according to official data from the Ukrainian Ministry of Health for Jan. 21.
This this is the first time since Nov. 20 that more than 20,000 new cases were recorded in a single day in Ukraine. Cases in the country have in recent days been increasing extremely rapidly.
This spike in infection in Ukraine is occurring amid a new surge of coronavirus cases in Europe, precipitated by the Omicron variant of the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2.
In total, for the entire duration of the pandemic in Ukraine, 3,819,538 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19, of which 3,576,268 have recovered, and 98,993 have died.

No data is available for the temporarily occupied territories of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the non-government-controlled parts of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, and Sevastopol.
An adaptive quarantine is in effect in the country until the end of March 2022, dividing Ukraine into colored zones that represent the coronavirus’ impact on the region. Presently, all Ukrainian regions are in the yellow zone.
Over 29 million coronavirus vaccination doses have been administered, with nearly 14 million people having received two doses and more than 167,000 people having had a booster dose.
