Number of new COVID-19 cases per day rises rapidly in Ukraine to almost 13,000
As the new Omicron variant of the SARS-CoV-2 novel coronavirus continues to sweep across Europe, since mid-January, Ukraine has seen a steep rise in the number of cases of the COVID-19 disease reported every day.
Over the past day, Ukraine recorded 12,815 new COVID-19 cases, while 5,413 patients recovered from the disease and 163 died of it, according to official data from the Ukrainian Ministry of Health.
A total of 2,401 patients have been hospitalized for treatment.
In the previous wave of the disease, COVI-19 daily cases spiked on Nov. 24, 2021 at an all-time high of 27,377. Cases then dropped rapidly to linger at around 7,000 per day from the end of December until mid-January, when they started to rise again sharply.

No data is available for the temporarily occupied territories of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the non-government-controlled parts of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, and Sevastopol.
In total, for the entire duration of the pandemic in Ukraine, 3,780,903 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19, of whom 3,567,336 have recovered, and 98,712 have died.
