One person was killed in Zaporizhzhia as a result of a Russian missile strike on the evening of Nov. 18, acting Mayor of Zaporizhzhia Anatolii Kurtiev said in a post on the Telegram messenger service.
"According to preliminary data, the Russian beasts, who attacked Zaporizhzhia yesterday, took the life of one civilian," Kurtiev wrote.
Over 120 residential buildings were left without heating as a result of the enemy missile strike on the frontline Ukrainian city, local media reported.
The Russian missiles were targeting district heating pipelines. A total of 123 multi-storey residential buildings with more than 17,000 people living in them were without heating.
Heating has already been restored to 60 of the buildings, and work to restore it to the others is still in progress.
Russia began a campaign to destroy civilian critical infrastructure in Ukraine on Oct. 10, when a mass missile attack knocked out electricity generating capacity around the country.
In the latest mass strike, which hit the country on Nov. 15, Russia also targeted gas and heat infrastructure.
The Kremlin’s apparent aim is to deprive Ukrainians of power, water and heat in the hope that they in turn put pressure on the government in Kyiv to seek peace.
Attacks on civilian infrastructure, in particular on water and heat supply facilities, may be against the laws of armed conflict.
