On April 16, Ukraine marks the Orthodox Christian holiday of Easter, celebrating the Christian belief in the resurrection of Jesus Christ and, for Ukrainians, represents the triumph of life over death and the renewal of the spirit.
NV has published a photo report showcasing Ukrainian celebrations on this day.
The head of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), Metropolitan Epiphanius, led the Easter service and procession at St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Cathedral in Kyiv.

People also gathered at Kyiv’s St. Volodymyr’s Cathedral to have their Easter bread, called “paska,” blessed by priests. This is a traditional part of the Easter celebrations in Ukraine, where families bake and decorate their paskas for the holiday. The blessing of the paska is believed to bring good luck and prosperity to the household.

Despite the damage their church sustained during Russian shelling, residents of the village of Lukashivka in Chernihiv Oblast attended the Easter service, determined to come together to celebrate the holiday and demonstrate their resilience.
