Russian invaders imprisoned more than 150 local residents in the basement of a school in the village of Yahidne in Chernihiv Oblast, local governor Viacheslav Chaus has reported in a post on Facebook.
“I'm lost for words,” Chaus wrote.
“I don't know how to recall this without savage pain. People got sick and died here. Here the living were next to the dead. Hunger. Thirst. Fear. Pain. Despair. Bucket toilet. Stuffiness. Children. There were women and children there. I admire their courage and endurance. It's horrible. The enemy will certainly be held responsible for this too. They will be held to answer in full.”
Chaus did not say how long the people had been imprisoned in the school basement. Russian forces controlled the areas around the city of Chernihiv, where Yahidne is located, for around a month.
