Some 74% of EU citizens favor the bloc’s support for Ukraine after Russia's full-scale invasion of the country, according to the Eurobarometer survey conducted by the European Parliament from Oct. 12 to Nov. 7.
"In all EU Member States, a majority of citizens approve of the EU’s support, with highest support levels shown in Sweden (97%), Finland (95%), the Netherlands (93%), Portugal (92%), and Denmark (92%)," the report says.
Sociologists note that almost 10 months after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, support for specific measures taken by the EU, such as sanctions against the Russian government or financial, military or humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, remains high at 73%.
The efforts of the member states to coordinate the response to the consequences of the invasion are also highly appreciated. 58% of EU citizens are satisfied with the level of cooperation between the countries, while 37% are dissatisfied.
The level of approval is particularly high in Ireland (84%), Portugal (83%), Denmark (83%), Sweden (81%) and Finland (80%). Greece (34%), Cyprus (40%) and Slovakia (41%) are among the least satisfied.
The survey also asked about the impact of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on European citizens.
"Because of the war and its consequences, close to two thirds of EU citizens believe that their life will change (65%), +4pp compared to April/May 2022," the surveyors concluded.
The poll was conducted from Oct. 12 to Nov. 7. More than 26,000 people were interviewed in person in all EU member states.
EU countries have been supporting Ukraine since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion in late February, providing Kyiv with financial and military assistance, as well as imposing sanctions against the Kremlin regime. The bloc has also hosted millions of Ukrainian refugees fleeing attacks by the Russian army across the country.
World leaders have also repeatedly stated that they will support Ukraine in its fight for its country for as long as it takes.
