Opinion poll reveals willingness of many Ukrainians to defend country

As many as 71% of Ukrainians said in the fall of 2022 that they are ready to defend the country, according to a public opinion poll conducted by the Razumkov Center and published on their website on Oct. 29. The share of Ukrainians who gave a positive answer has been constantly increasing (from 40% in 2011 and 57% in 2020).

The majority of those surveyed, across of Ukraine's regions,  expressed willingness to defend the country, ranging from 54% in the east to 79% in the south of the country, including 74% of Ukrainian-speaking respondents and 62% of Russian-speaking respondents. In terms of gender, 81% of men and 63% of women are ready to defend their native land. Meanwhile, 77−79% in groups aged 18-59 and 53% in groups aged 60 and over stated their readiness to take up arms.

The poll was conducted by the Razumkov Center from Sept. 22 to Oct. 1, 2022 and questioned 2,021 respondents. It was only conducted in those territories that are controlled by the government of Ukraine and where hostilities are not taking place.
