Patriot SAM downed Russian aircraft in Bryansk Oblast on May 13
A Patriot surface-to-air missile system featured in a video posted by the Ukrainian Air Force to mark Anti-Aircraft Forces Day on July 3.
The system has a ‘kill count’ of downed aircraft marked on its side, where three helicopters can be seen on one of the video frames dated May 13 – the day of a number of Russian aircraft were downed in Russia's Bryansk Oblast.
Three helicopters and a drone are seen on the Patriot’s side, with the date May 13 beneath them. There are two more planes displayed as well, without an clear date.
Two Russian Mi-8 helicopters and Su-34 and Su-35 fighter jets crashed almost simultaneously in Russia’s Bryansk Oblast on May 13. Their crews were killed. According to Air Force spokesperson Yuriy Ihnat, Russia may actually have lost three helicopters.
The helicopters were supposed to launch guided bombs against Ukrainian settlements in the north. He claimed, however, that Russian air defense was involved in "Russian aircraft falling [from the sky].”
In the video, anti-aircraft troops speak about their successful work protecting the Ukrainian sky from Russian missiles and drones, using S-300, Buk-M1, NASAMAS, and IRIS-T SAM systems.
Russia has lost a total of 309 helicopters and 315 warplanes since the start of the full-scale invasion against Ukraine.
