Ukraine has received Patriot air defense systems from three countries – the United States, Germany, and the Netherlands, confirmed Deputy Defense Minister Lieutenant General Oleksandr Pavliuk on Telegram on April 19.

“Such air defense systems will make it possible to defend against the strikes of Russian cruise missiles and UAVs,” he said.

The latest Patriot air defense system can shoot down the missiles Russia uses to attack Ukraine, including Iskanders, Kinzhals (hypersonic air-to-air missiles), and Zircons (hypersonic anti-ship missiles).

Confirming receipt of the Patriot systems, Ukraine’s Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov said “Today, our beautiful Ukrainian sky becomes more secure because Patriot air defense systems have arrived in Ukraine.”

Earlier in January 2023, the United States, Germany, and the Netherlands vowed to transfer the Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine.

U.S. Department of Defense spokesman Brig. Gen. Patrick Ryder said on March 30 that 65 Ukrainian troops had completed their Patriot air defense system training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
