The United States plans to deliver more of its advanced, high-precision HIMARS rocket launcher systems to Ukraine “as quickly as possible,” the U.S. Department of Defense said in a press release on July 26.

During a phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin discussed the pace of U.S. security assistance to Ukraine, the Pentagon release reads.

In particular, the officials discussed the transfer of HIMARS rocket artillery systems, pledged to Ukraine by its Western partners.

“Secretary Austin reassured (Ukrainian Defense) Minister (Oleksii) Reznikov that the United States is moving as quickly as possible to deliver equipment to Ukraine,” the Pentagon’s press release reads.

“Minister Reznikov also provided an update on the situation on the ground. The two leaders agreed to remain in close coordination.”

Reznikov later commented on the conversation in a Twitter post:

“We reaffirmed that the commitments made by all parties will strengthen the capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and bring us closer to our common goal – a Ukrainian victory!” said Reznikov.

The United States and its allies have thus far committed to supplying Ukraine with at least 20 HIMARS, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, army General Mark Milley, said during a press briefing on July 20.
