A recent petition accusing Odesa mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov of disloyalty, which received more than 25,000 signatures, has received an official response from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Oct. 28.
Among other things, the author of the petition stated that Trukhanov “actively demonstrates his loyalty to the invaders.” In particular, he mentioned the Mayor’s refusal to demolish a monument to Russian empress Catherine II in Odesa.
“Solving the issues raised in the petition (providing a legal assessment of Trukhanov's activities, possible prosecution of him, deprivation of Ukrainian citizenship, removal from the post for which he was elected) does not relate to the constitutional powers of the President of Ukraine,” replied Zelenskyy.
He said that letters have been sent to Ukraine’s SBU security service, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, with a request to verify the information contained in the petition.
