Four arrested in Wrocław over brutal abduction and extortion of Ukrainian citizens

Police in Wrocław, Poland, arrested four suspects charged with kidnapping, robbing, and assaulting two young Ukrainian citizens who were held captive in a downtown basement, Polish news outlet RMF24 reported on June 11.
According to police, the two 20-year-old Ukrainian citizens were lured to separate locations in Wrocław in late May under the pretext of receiving assistance.
One victim was targeted in a courtyard on Bardzka Street, while the other was intercepted at a parking lot on Świeradowska Street. Both were later forced into vehicles and transported to the basement of a restaurant in the city's historic center.
Once inside the basement, the suspects used physical force and intimidation to extort the victims, compelling them to surrender their bank passwords and solicit loans from friends.
Law enforcement authorities identified and detained four suspects aged 25 to 30 from Kazakhstan, Ukraine, and Tunisia. All four face charges of aggravated unlawful confinement involving extreme cruelty, robbery, extortion, and battery. They have been remanded in custody.
A group of adults in Olsztyn, Poland, severely beat a 14-year-old Ukrainian boy on May 7, hospitalizing the teenager and subjecting him to hate speech and death threats. Local police are now investigating the circumstances of the assault and working to identify all individuals involved.
