As many as 82% of Ukrainians support Ukraine's accession to NATO if a referendum were held today, according to a poll conducted by Center for Insights in Survey Research (CISR) for the International Republican Institute (IRI) published on March 22.

That is an increase of 10% from a similar poll in June 2022 and an increase of 23% since April 2022.

Up to 97% of Ukrainians believe that Ukraine will win the war after more than a year of Russia’s full-scale invasion, while 74% believe that Ukraine will regain all territories, including Crimea.

The survey was conducted on Feb. 1-5, 2023, by the Sociological Group “Rating” on behalf of the IRI, through phone interviews in all regions of Ukraine, except for the temporarily occupied territories of Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk oblasts. As many as 2,000 people were polled. The margin of error is +/- 2%.

The record-high support for Ukraine joining NATO was recorded in January 2023, when 86% of Ukrainians expressed support.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced in Sept. 2022 that Ukraine was applying for "accelerated ascension" to NATO. The document was signed by the president, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, and Parliament Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk.

Zelenskyy expects that Ukraine will join NATO following the war with Russia. Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said that Ukraine had already de facto "joined" NATO.
