Polls show Zelenskyy and Zaluzhnyi to be most popular of Ukraine’s leaders

The latest public opinion polls conducted by the U.S. National Democratic Institute (NDI) indicate that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi, remain Ukrainians’ most popular leaders.

The NDI has now conducted the third wave of its survey since the invasion, called “Opportunities and Obstacles to the Democratic Transition of Ukraine. The new survey was conducted in the first half of January 2023, with the fieldwork being carried out by the Kyiv Institute of Sociology. Previous waves of the survey were conducted in May and August 2022.

Incumbent President Volodymyr Zelenskyy took the first place according to the preferences of Ukrainians — 91% of respondents like him (6% do not like him).

Valerii Zaluzhnyi is in second place, liked by 87% of respondents and disliked by 4%.

Serhiy Prytula is in third place — liked by 81% of respondents, and disliked by 10%.

Vitaliy Klitschko is next in the ranking — 65% of respondents like him, 25% do not like him.

Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to the head of the President’s Office, took fifth place in the rating. 63% of respondents like him and 17% dislike him.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal took only sixth place. He is liked by 62% of respondents and disliked by 21%.

Further distribution of the sympathies of Ukrainians towards politicians is shown in the infographic.

According to the survey by the Razumkov Center, conducted from Dec. 21, 2022 to Jan. 3, 2023, almost 60% of respondents named Volodymyr Zelenskyy the politician of the year, followed by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Valerii Zaluzhnyi, who had support of 10% of Ukrainians.
