Portugal is repairing some of its Leopard 2 tanks and will send three units to Ukraine in March, Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa said on Feb. 8.
“Right now we are implementing a recovery and maintenance plan for the Leopard 2 tanks and, according to the plan, we are in a position to be able to send three of them in March,” Costa said during a speech before the Portuguese parliament, according to the Reuters news agency.
Admiral Antonio Silva Ribeiro, the head of the Portuguese armed forces, said last month Portugal that had 37 Leopard 2 tanks available, but local media widely reported that the majority are inoperable.
Сosta also reported that Portugal is in talks with Germany to obtain spare parts necessary for their repair.
