An electrical substation in Russia’s Belgorod has been taken offline, leaving parts of the city without power, Belgorod governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said in a Telegram post on Oct. 19.
Local social media accounts are sharing footage of the substation visible on fire earlier.
According to Gladkov, the outage was caused by “overvoltage” at one of the electrical transformers.
“A transformer at Yuzhnaya substation in Belgorod was taken offline due to overvoltage,” the governor said.
The incident is the latest one in a series of apparent fires and explosions across various elements of Belgorod’s power infrastructure in recent weeks.
Gladkov earlier accused Ukraine of “shelling” the city from across the border. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy denied the allegations, reiterating that Ukraine has no intention to attack Russian territory, focusing instead on liberating its lands from Russian occupation.
