Pregnant woman dies after airstrike on Mariupol maternity ward
A pregnant women has died after being injured in an airstrike on a maternity ward in the port city of Mariupol, Voice of America journalist Asya Dolina wrote on Facebook on March 13.
"The first pregnant girl from the video/photo reports from the bombing site of Children's Hospital No. 3 in Mariupol (maternity ward), the one who was carried out on a stretcher, did not survive. And her unborn child did not survive," Dolina wrote.
The journalist noted that this information was confirmed to her by photographer Evgeniy Maloletka, who took a photo of women for the Associated Press news agency.
Mariupol has been completely blocked and under continuous shelling by Russian troops for more than 10 days. Russian invaders have already destroyed a children's hospital, a maternity ward, and a technical university.
The occupiers also refuse to organize a humanitarian corridor for the delivery of foodstuffs and the evacuation of the civilian population.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov called the situation in Mariupol "an act of genocide."
