President’s Office of Ukraine expects talks between Xi Jinping and Zelensky on war in Ukraine
Head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak has said that talks between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and political leader of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping are expected in the near future.
“We see China's neutral position. We believe that China, as one of the world leaders, should now play a greater role in ending this war and building a new security system,” he said during a video call at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House on March 23.
According to U.S. media outlets, Russia has asked China to support its full-scale invasion of Ukraine by providing military and economic assistance. The aggressor country and China deny this.
The United States has warned China against providing assistance to Russia. According to the Chinese Ambassador to Ukraine, Fan Xianrong, the country “would never attack Ukraine, and would provide economic aid to the country.”
On March 18, Politico and Bloomberg, citing sources in the European Union and the United States, reported that China may be leaning towards helping Russia amid the full-scale war it has launched against Ukraine.
