President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked every Ukrainian for their contribution to future victory over Russia in his New Year's address to the nation, which was broadcast in the last minutes of the war-torn year of 2022.

"Each of us is a fighter," Zelenskyy told Ukrainians.

"I want to say to all of you: Ukrainians, you are incredible! Look at what we have done and what we are doing! How our warriors have been defeating this ‘second army of the world’ from the first days.”

He also recalled how an elderly man stopped a tank with his hands and how a woman had knocked an enemy drone from the sky with a can of tomatoes.

"Everyone is important in this war,” Zelenskyy said.

“Those who hold a weapon, a car steering wheel, a ship or aircraft steering wheel, a scalpel or a pointer. Everyone who is behind a laptop, who drives a combine, a train. Those at the checkpoint and at the power plant. Journalists and diplomats, public utilities workers and rescuers. Everyone. Those who work, who study at university or school. And even those who are just learning to walk. All this is for their sake. Our children. Our people. Our country. There are no small things in a great war. There are no unnecessary ones. Each of us is a fighter. Each of us is the front. Each of us is the basis of defense.”
