The owner of the Wagner Group Yevgeny Prigozhin has stopped hiding his ties with the Russian mercenary company and is trying to "burnish his credibility,” UK Defense Intelligence said in its daily update on Twitter on Nov. 2.
The agency notes that in the last two months, Prigozhin has abandoned any claims that he is not associated with the Wagner Group and has become more open in his public statements.
"He is likely trying to burnish his credibility within the stressed Russian national security system," the UK intelligence agency said.
Prigozhin stated on Oct. 23 that Wagner's units were advancing 100-200 meters a day, which he said was "normal in modern warfare."
However, according to the Kremlin’s military doctrine, Russian troops are expected to advance 30 kilometers or more per day under most conditions.
The UK Defense Ministry believes that back in February, Russian troops planned to advance 1,000 kilometers across Ukraine within a month.
In September, Ukrainian forces achieved an advance of more than 20 kilometers per day, the intelligence added.
