Russia launched another mass drone and missile attack using almost all types of long-range weapons it has against Ukraine, including the capital Kyiv, in the early hours of March 9, Kyiv’s military administration reported the situation on Telegram.
"The air-raid alert was for almost seven hours in the capital," the authorities reported.
"Thanks to our air defence all of the cruise missiles and drones (targeting Kyiv) were intercepted," the message reads.
However, an aero-ballistic hypersonic Kinzhal missile hit an energy facility in Holosiivskyi District in the south of the capital, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko wrote on Telegram. Rescue services are at the scene of the missile impact. A large fire could be seen, and thick smoke is drifting across the capital.
Emergency power outages were introduced in the capital in the wake of the strike. About 15% of city has been left without power and about 40% without heating. The water supply is working normally, however, Klitshcko said.
In Sviatoshynskyi District in the north-western part of the capital several cars were set on fire and three people were injured in the attack. Earlier, air defense systems – possibly Ukraine’s German-supplied Gepard anti-aircraft guns – could be heard firing across the city.
Meanwhile, explosions were heard across Ukraine, with Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief General Valery Zaluzhnyi reported that Russia had launched 81 missiles of various types, including six Kinzhal missiles.
Zhytomyr was left mostly without power and water supply after a drone attack.
About 15 explosions were in Kharkiv and its surrounding oblast. The entire city has lost its power supply.
Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant is currently disconnected from the grid due to the actions of Russian occupiers, Ukrainian state nuclear power company Energoatom reported.
