Sybiha accuses Russia of terrorist strikes amid ceasefire talks

Russia is showing its “terrorist face” by launching 11 ballistic missiles and 164 drones overnight while the world awaits Moscow’s response to Ukraine’s ceasefire proposal, which was set to begin at midnight between May 5 and 6, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said on X.
The diplomat noted that energy infrastructure across multiple regions was the main target of the Russian attack. At least five people were killed and about a dozen were injured.
“While the world waits for Moscow to respond to Ukraine’s proposal of a ceasefire starting at midnight between May 5 and 6, Russia shows its true face as a terrorist,” he wrote.
Sybiha stressed that Ukraine needs consolidated support from partners, peace-seeking nations and international organizations to back President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s call for a ceasefire starting tonight.
“We need a consolidated and principled stance from the entire international community for peace and diplomacy, not war and terror,” he added.
Earlier on May 4, Russia’s Defense Ministry announced a ceasefire for May 8-9 and threatened massive strikes on central Kyiv if Ukraine tried to disrupt Victory Day celebrations. It cynically claimed it had previously refrained from striking central Kyiv for “humanitarian reasons.”
In response, Zelenskyy said Ukraine had received no official ceasefire proposal but declared a ceasefire regime starting at midnight on May 6.
Zelenskyy had previously stated that Ukrainian drones could appear over the May 9 parade in Moscow.
The Red Square parade is scheduled to proceed without military equipment for the first time since 2022, featuring only a marching column. The number of guests will be reduced to several hundred instead of thousands, and the event will last less than an hour.
