Russian forces made a land bridge
connecting the island of Dzharylhach with the occupied part of Kherson
Oblast, Ukraine’s General Staff said in a Facebook post on May 19.
According to the report, enemy troops have filled the narrow and shallow strait between the island and mainland Ukraine with sand. The island will likely be used for military purposes: the invaders have already made a military range there.
Dzharylhach is the largest uninhabited island in Ukraine’s waters, with an area of 62 km² and a length of about 42 km, and makes up the Dzharylhach National Park.
At the end of March, Russian Center for Investigative Journalism reported that Russian troops plan to hunt wild animals in the Dzharylhach National Park.
