Russian troops are establishing a second line of defense to consolidate their gains in Ukraine’s southern Zaporizhzhya Oblast, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported in a Facebook update on June 1.

In particular, the General Staff says that the Russians redeployed a T-62 tank battalion and a motorized rifle battalion near the settlement of Vasylivka.

On the Avdiyivka, Kurakhove and Novopavlivka axes, the enemy holds its positions, and is continuing to fire on Ukrainian positions with mortars and artillery.

On the Pivdennyi Buh axis, the invaders' main efforts are focused on maintaining their positions and creating additional lines of defense.

Near the settlements of Mykolayivka, Novopavlivske and Shyroke, the Russians conducted large-scale shelling using multiple launch rocket systems, artillery, and mortars.

Russia's war against Ukraine is in its fourth month.
