As the Russian military is running low on domestically-produced missiles, Moscow could soon start targeting Ukraine’s infrastructure with Iranian short-range ballistic missiles, Ukrainian Military Intelligence spokesman Andriy Yusov told Ukrainian TV broadcasters on Oct. 31.
“The Russians are struggling with low quantities of their own missiles,” said Yusov.
“They will continue to attack our civilian energy infrastructure – using Iranian weapons, instead. That’s something we have to take into account; Ukraine is preparing to deal with this threat.”
He added that intelligence points towards Belarus supplying Russia with military equipment – main battle tanks and artillery shells. Yusov also noted that reports of Russian troops salvaging microchips from domestic appliances are correct, highlighting Moscow’s struggles with dwindling supply of hi-tech components.
Ukraine’s Military Intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov earlier warned that Russia could deploy Iranian missiles against Ukraine as early as November.
The Washington reported on Oct. 16 that Iran has agreed to supply Russia with surface-to-surface missiles – Fateh-110 and Zolfaghar. These short-range ballistic missiles can strike targets up to 700 kilometers away.
