Russia destroys bridge to Rubizhne, cutting it off from Ukraine

Russian troops have destroyed a bridge between the city of Sievierodonetsk and the town of Rubizhne in Luhansk oblast, leaving Rubizhne effectively isolated from Ukraine proper, Luhansk administration governor Serhiy Haidai said in a Telegram messenger post on May 13.
“The bridge, erected following the liberation of the area from (Russian) invaders in 2014, is destroyed; the route from Sievierodonetsk to Rubizhne is no more,” said Haidai.
He noted that the bridge took nine months to build; prior to that, locals were reduced to using a makeshift pontoon bridge made by Ukraine’s military engineers.
The towns of Popasna and Hirske remain under relentless Russian assaults, which have levelled almost 60 buildings already.
On May 11, a resident of the city of Lysychansk was killed by Russian artillery fire. A 11-year-old boy from the village of Zolote died in a Dnipro hospital from his wounds.
According to Haidai, Ukrainian troops have held the line against Russian advances in Popasna, with reasonable success.
