Belgorod Oblast, Russia is urgently evacuating a nuclear weapons storage
facility in the region, Ukrainian Military Intelligence spokesman Andriy Yusov
told Ukrainian TV broadcasters on May 22.
According to Yusov, the evacuation is taking place at the Belgorod-22 site, a knows stockpile of nuclear weapons.
“There are even reports of (further) evacuation measures; Belgorod-22 facility – a nuclear armaments storage facility – is also being evacuated,” Yusov said.
He added that the Russians are using heavy equipment and a significant number of personnel to carry out the operation. Yusov also emphasized that the situation in Belgorod Oblast is an "internal conflict," and that Ukraine’s defense forces are solely focused on liberating their own territory.
Earlier on May 22, the Freedom of Russia Legion, together with the Russian Volunteer Corps (RVC), claimed they have “liberated” Kozinka and Gora-Podol in Russia’s Belgorod Oblast.
Ukrainian officials said Kyiv is aware of these developments, with no direct involvement in what they described as an “internal Russian matter.”
Belgorod Governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov, subsequently announced a counter-terrorism operation being underway in the region.
