The Russian military command is falsifying the place of death of soldiers in order not to pay the appropriate compensation to their families, Defense Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) reported on Jan. 2.
Russian families receive more compensation if a relative is killed in a war zone. At the beginning of the current full-scale invasion and war, on March 3, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin said the payment should be RUR 7.5 million, or about $73,500 at that time.
The HUR published an audio recording of a telephone conversation between one of the invaders and his mother in order to prove its claim that the Russian military was lying about the place of death of soldiers.
“We’re here just as cannon fodder, that's all... The main thing is that we are ‘in Belgorod’,” a Russian soldier is heard telling his mother.
“You see, that’s bullshit. The boys, cargo 200s, are being taken home,” the soldier goes on – “cargo 200” is a Russian military code for the transportation of dead bodies.
“They, like, in Russia, like... Well, like... They mark him as if he died in Belgorod, not in Ukraine. You see the kind of system this is,” the Russian soldier says.
He also said drunkenness is rampant among the Russian military, causing everyone to “care less and less about anything.”
