Russia’s big offensive is already underway with invaders planning to reach the administrative borders of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts by March 31, the head of the Ukrainian military’s Main Directorate of Intelligence or HUR, Kyrylo Budanov, said in an interview published by magazine Forbes on Feb. 22.
“The big offensive of Russia, which they have in mind, is already underway,” Budanov told Forbes.
“But it’s going on in such a way that not everyone can even see that it’s going, that’s (how weak) this attack is. They have a strategic task – to reach the administrative borders of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts by March 31.”
Budanov said he was convinced that the Russian invasion forces would not be able to achieve this goal.
On Feb. 9, the adviser to the head of the President’s Office, Mykhailo Podolyak, said that Russia had already launched a new large-scale offensive.
According to Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, the Kremlin is already having serious problems with its “big offensive.”
Fierce fighting has been reported in recent weeks in several areas of the front line in eastern and southern Ukraine.
In particular, Russian and Ukrainian sources reported that the Russians had taken heavy losses of men and equipment in an unsuccessful attempt to advance on the town of Vuhledar in Donetsk Oblast. It was reported that Russia’s 155th Naval Infantry Brigade, an elite marine unit, had been practically destroyed.
