Russia is trying hide the massive scale of its losses from its two-month long invasion of Ukraine, the UK’s Defense Ministry has said in its daily update for April 25.
According to the UK ministry, Russia’s Ministry of Defense has proposed that compensation payments to the families of dead soldiers be controlled by the military, and not by civilian officials.
This decision reflects the desire to hide the true scale of Russian losses in the war against Ukraine from the local population, the UK ministry said.
Russia has made minor advances in some areas since shifting its focus to fully occupying the Donbas, but without a significant breakthrough in conditions of insufficient combat and logistics support, the UK Defense Ministry added.
Russia's decision to besiege rather than attack Mariupol’s Azovstal steel plant means many Russian units remain fixed in the city and cannot be redeployed.
