Almost 50 hospitalized, 12 killed in Russian missile attack on Zaporizhzhya overnight

At least 12 people were killed after invading Russian forces launched 12 missiles on the city of Zaporizhzhya overnight on Oct. 9, Zaporizhzhya Regional Military Administration head Oleksandr Starukh said in an update.

According to him, 49 people, including six children were hospitalized.

Most of the missiles, which were launched from aircraft, hit apartment buildings and the city’s private sector, he said.

Starukh said a nine-story building was partially damaged, five private houses were destroyed. Municipal infrastructure facilities were also affected, and 20 cars were damaged.

“There may be people under the rubble,” Starukh said. “A rescue operation is underway at the scene. Eight people have already been rescued. The victims are getting all the necessary assistance.”

Secretary of the Zaporizhzhya City Council Anatolii Kurtiev earlier reported 20 private houses and about 50 high-rise buildings had been damaged in the recent attack. Four educational institutions were also destroyed.

On the night of Oct. 9, Russia shelled Zaporizhzhya twice. In the past few days, the Russian military were regularly attacking the city, particularly residential buildings and infrastructure.

As many as 18 people died after an attack on Oct. 6. The local authorities also reported 31 civilian deaths as a result of shelling of a group of civilian cars waiting at a checkpoint on Sept. 30.
