In order to rebuild depleted army units after a month of fierce fighting in Ukraine, the Russian army has launched a covert mobilization of some 60,000 reservists, Ukraine’s General Staff said on April 4.

The mobilization has a preference for people with combat experience, and covers all ranks – enlisted men, petty officers, and the officer corps.

The following Russian regions are prioritized: Krasnodar, Perm, Dagestan, Ingushetia, and Kalmykia.

“Financial incentives remain the chief motivator for (these) reservists,” the General Staff’s message reads.

“Additionally, Russians tend to think that troops deployed to Ukraine can enrich themselves by plundering and looting.”
