The recent destruction of a Russian landing ship in the Russian-occupied Ukrainian port town of Berdyansk will likely make Moscow less inclined to conduct operations close to Ukraine’s coast, UK Ministry of Defense said in a intelligence assessment on March 27.

On March 24, Ukrainian armed forces destroyed the Russian Tapir-class naval landing vessel (NATO reporting name: Alligator) Saratov in Berdyansk’s port. Initial reports identified the destroyed ship as the Orsk – another Russian vessel of the same class.

Russia continues to blockade Ukrainian ports, effectively cutting the country off from maritime trade routes, according to the ministry’s post on Twitter.
