Russian daily casualties in Ukraine are as high as 1,500 soldiers, mostly concentrated around the battle for Bakhmut, Donetsk Oblast, a senior NATO official told The Guardian on March 17.
“Russia is sustaining 1,200, 1,300, even 1,500 casualties a day in its current offensive, mostly in Bakhmut,” the source said.
“Killed to wounded ratio is one to three.”
The official added that Ukraine suffers "an order of magnitude less" losses in battles where "several thousand" shells are spent by both sides every day.
He added that it’s not yet clear how long the battle for Bakhmut could continue.
Ukraine’s Operational Command East spokesman Col. Serhiy Cherevaty previously explained that by defending Bakhmut Ukrainian forces prevent a major Russian breakthrough and persistently attrit Russia’s manpower and equipment reserves.
