Russia prepares counteroffensive in Kharkiv Oblast, General Staff warns

Russian forces are preparing a counteroffensive and plan to advance towards Kupiansk, Kharkiv Oblast, spokesman of the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Serhiy Cherevaty, told Ukrainian TV broadcasters on Dec. 7.
According to him, Ukrainian military is well-aware of the invaders' plans, and is ready for them.
“Indeed, the Russians are preparing a counter-offensive operation on the Luhansk axis, and Kupiansk is one of its elements,” Cherevaty explained.
“We know about this, and are actively counteracting this in the area around Svatove and other areas where they are trying to advance.”
He noted that the situation is difficult, but remains under control.
“We see their every action,” Cherevaty concludes.
On Dec. 6, the General Staff reported that the Ukrainian military attacked the positions of an enemy air defense battery, while mass desertion of Russian troops was recorded in Donetsk Oblast.
