Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that Russia refuses to negotiate with Ukraine within the framework of the "peace formula" proposed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in an interview with the pro-Kremlin Russia Today outlet on Dec. 29.

“It is obvious that Kyiv is not ready for dialogue,” lied Lavrov.

“(Volodymyr) Zelenskyy churns out all kinds of ideas and peace formulas, with the illusion of succeeding, with the Western assistance, in achieving the withdrawal of our troops from the Russian territories in Donbas, Crimea, Zaporizhzhya and Kherson regions, making Russia pay reparations, voluntarily surrender to international tribunals, etc.”

He stated that Russia will not accede to any of these conditions – implying that Russia is unwilling and unable to seek a peaceful resolution to the unprovoked full-scale war it unleashed.

Lavrov further lied about “the instructions of the Anglo-Saxons, who were interested in keeping hostilities going,” while impugning Ukraine’s sovereignty and agency.

Lavrov added that “the current line-up of Ukrainian politicians is unable to negotiate” and that “most of them are outright Russophobes.”

Attitudes in Ukraine towards Russia, as evidenced by sociological polls, have shown a distinct down trend since the beginning of Russia’s military misadventures on sovereign Ukrainian soil.
