After an air raid alert woke Ukrainians in Kyiv and across the country overnight on May 26, as Russia launched a comprehensive attack with drones and missiles of various types, targeting the Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kharkiv oblasts.
Russia launched 17 missiles of various types as well as 31 Shahed drones. 10 cruise missiles were fired from bombers in the Caspian Sea area, while seven S-300/S-400 anti-aircraft missiles were launched from occupied Zaporizhzhya Oblast, said the Ukrainian Air Force.
10 cruise missiles and 23 attack drones were shot down.
All targets were shot down in the Kyiv area, while hits were confirmed in Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv oblasts.
In Kharkiv Oblast, Russian troops struck Izyum and Merefa with Shaheds, causing fires to break out, said regional governor Oleg Synegubov.
In Kyiv Oblast, missile fragments damaged seven private houses, but no victims were reported by Kyiv Oblast Military Administration head Ruslan Kravchenko.
Dnipro city and region were massively attacked with missiles and drones at night, causing fires at three enterprises. Five cruise missiles and six Shahed drones were shot down, regional governor Serhiy Lysak announced.
In the city of Dnipro, fires broke out in a detached housing neighborhood, as well as at two private houses and one transport company. Rescuers have already extinguished the fire.
Russia regularly fires at Ukrainian cities with Kh-101 cruise missiles, one of the newest missiles in the aggressor state’s arsenal. They are the same used to strike the high-rise building in Uman in April 2023 and during the latest attack on Kyiv on May 26.
This time, the enemy shifted the direction of the attack to the east of Ukraine, targeting critical infrastructure and facilities of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
In total, Russia launched:
- 17 missiles of various types (10 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles from Tu-95MS aircraft from the Caspian Sea and seven S-300/S-400 anti-aircraft guided missiles from the occupied Tokmak district of Zaporizhzhya Oblast), and
- 31 Shahed-136/131 attack UAVs from the southern and northern directions.
Ukrainian air defense forces shot down:
- 10 Kh-101/Kh-555 air-launched cruise missiles
- 23 Shahed-136/131 attack drones
