The Admiral Kuznetsov, the Russian Navy’s sole aircraft carrier, burst into flames while docked in the city of Murmansk, Kremlin-controlled media reported on Dec. 22.
The Russian ship has been under repair for several years. This is the second fire on the ship in the last three years.
After a tour to Syria in 2016, during which it was widely mocked for the amount of smoke belched from its engines as it was underway, it was sent to dock for repairs.
In 2018, there was an accident when a crane fell onto the ship, as a result of which the vessel received over 50 “items of damage” and a ship repair mechanic disappeared.
In 2019, a large-scale fire broke out on board the cruiser due to garbage that had accumulated there, killing two people and injuring 14 others.
